Delivering Free K-5 Art Lessons conceived and inspired by working Northwest Artists

Our summer of significance wtih the Hillsboro Library is nearly complete. Golden Road Arts has participated in 18 events with the Hillsboro Library related to the Library on the Loose program. Our final event is one more Library Card signup day on September 25 at Shute Park from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm.

The Library on the Loose program covered 16 local parks and included dozens of families hundreds of children over eight weeks. 

The 2021 Hillsboro Library on the Loose program included the following young reader titles:

  • Brown, Brown Bear, What Do You See? By Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle at Shute Park on Tuesday August 10 at 5:15 pm
  • My Forest is Green by Darren Lebeuf at Reedville Creek Park on Thursday August 12 at 12:15 pm
  • The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt at Griffin Oak Parks on Tuesday August 17 at 5:15 pm
  • White Rabbit’s Color Book by Alan Baker at Butternut Creek Park on Thursday August 19 at 12:15 pm
  • Round is a Tortilla: A Book of Shapes by Roseanne Greenfield Thong at Amberglen Park on Tuesday August 24 at 5:15 pm
  • Pete the Cat by Eric Litwin at Dairy Creek Park on Thursday August 26 at 12:15 pm

Golden Road Art and Hillsboro 2021 Summer Event is Underway!!

The Hillsboro Library Summer Reading program promotes and encourages children, youth and adults to read during summer. Their program also brings an opportunity to get creative and inspire curiosity. This summer, Hillsboro Library – in partnership with Golden Road Arts – will provide in-person art workshops for children through Outreach events at Hillsboro Park locations as part of the Summer Reading Program

These creative and exciting events for children and their parents are scheduled twice a week from July 6 – August 26:

  • Starting July 6th – August 26th
  • At Multiple Hillsboro city parks
  • Twice a week
    • Tuesdays – 5:15 to 6:15 pm
    • Thursdays – 12:15 to 1:15 pm
    • Check with Hillsboro Library for exact locations and updates (https://www.hillsboro-oregon.gov/our-city/departments/library/events-and-programs)

The program will consist in reading the story follow by an art project lead by Golden Road Arts. 

Also, volunteers will be roaming around with the children participating in case they need assistance.

Golden Road staff will film the art project process which will be available online as a digital art album for families to watch.

We have ten Library on the Loose Events in the books, and Golden Road Arts has worked with hundreds of children so far this summer creating art. Still to come are the following books at these parks:.
